Prepare Now

Will you be supported by the correct documents at times of vulnerability?   Please be aware: If you are likely to move to a different jurisdiction for treatment and/or care; or if your assets are held in a different jurisdiction you should consider multiple preparation for lack of mental capacity.

If you have assets or live in England and Wales the documents required if you choose not to make decisions or lose mental capacity to make decisions for yourself are called Lasting Powers of Attorney. There are two types, Property and Financial Affairs and Health and Welfare you can choose to have one or both of these documents.

If you have assets or live in Scotland the documents required if you choose not to make decisions or lose mental capacity to make decisions for yourself are called Continuing Powers of Attorney and/or Welfare Powers of Attorney. Scotland also offers a blended document that covers property, financial and welfare matters this is called a Continuing and Welfare Power of Attorney.

If you have assets or live in Northern Ireland the document available to prepare for times when you may choose not to make decisions or lose mental capacity to make decisions for yourself is called an Enduring Power of Attorney this relates to your Property and Financial matters only.

If you have assets or live on the Isle of Man you can prepare for times when you may choose not to make decisions or loose mental capacity to make decisions for yourself by making an Enduring Power of Attorney for your Property and Financial matters only.

If you live in the jurisdictions of Jersey or Guernsey there is currently no preventative method to prepare for lack of mental capacity.
